Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Sorry that we haven't posted for a while, but it's been the usual end of year whirlwind of press lunches and cocktails, plus the Hot Marbella staff drinks party that was held at the always excellent Shiraz in Marbella Port (thanks to Celso, Carlos and Michelle for looking after us so well)

This tends to be the quiet time of year as celebs either head off to the Caribbean or skiing, although if you're planning an off the cuff train trip after a liquid lunch, at least make sure that the station that you're demanding to be taken to Paris from actually serves the destination! (Yes, we talking about the Sophie Anderton moment...)

We were surprised to get a Christmas card popping through the letterbox this week from Baron and Baroness van Aduard, Marbella's resident vampire family who featured on the front cover of our Halloween issue. And we were even more surprised to be told that the Baron's daughters Ginger and Justine had made it themselves, as we couldn't really envisage them arranging some snowy Santa Scene.

But we need not have worried. The girls' theme this year? Michael Jackson with his friends in heaven. We recognise the guy on the left as Elvis, but the blonde on the right looks a little like Paris Hilton. Perhaps our friends in the Undead know something we don't?

Hayley O'Brien crowned Marbella It Girl

The first Marbella It girl competition, organised by Elle Morgan and held in front of an enthusiastic audience in the glamourous surroundings of Mansion Nighclub, saw Hayley O'Brien crowned Marbella It Girl. The 24-year-old Human Resources manager from Gibraltar told Hot Marbella "I'm very excited about winning the competition and looking forward to being Marbella It Girl for the year". Judges, including Ziggy from Big Brother and Hot Magazine's founder Gary Heginbottom, decided that Hayley had the right combination of confidence and charisma needed to be Marbella's It girl. One of Hayley's prizes will be a front cover shoot for Hot Marbella, so be sure to look out for her in the January edition!

Dolph Lundgren - Marbella Ambassador

Marbella Town hall has appointed actor Dolph Lundgren, best known for his role as Russian Boxer Ivan Drago in the Hollywood Blockbuster “Rocky IV” as Ambassador for Marbella. Mayor Ángeles Muñoz commented that it was “a true privilege that well known figures such as Dolph Lungdren, who could have chosen any town to live in, decided to make ours his home”

Dolph commented “Marbella is a very special place for my family. It’s a marvellous city where we can enjoy life to the full”. The actor also praised the “warth and hospitality of the people who know how to enjoy life” We're behind him on that one.

In his role as Ambassador, Dolph spoke of his love for Marbella and promised that he would promote the town in a positive light”

Dolph is currently filming The Expendables with an all star cast including Silvester Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Eric Roberts, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. The film is due to be released in April 2010.

With his history of playing villains, mercenaries and assorted bad guys, Dolph may not be the most obvious choice of Ambassador for Marbella, but we wouldn't want to argue with him!
